The Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing and Development Corporation(TAHDCO) implemented the Entrepreneurship Development Programme(EDP) which is helpful in developing the entrepreneurial skills and abilities that are necessary to run a business. The TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program aims at helping an individual to gain the essential abilities and skills to be an effective and efficient entrepreneur.

The TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program, is organised on a regular basis in order to look after the talent of the youth by providing them education in different aspects of the industrial activity that might be needed in order to establish MSMEs. These TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program are generally conducted in ITIs, Polytechnics and other technical institutions where the skill to motivate self-employment is available.

In order to help in the economic development of the tribal population, proper assistance is provided to individuals to start income-generating activities whose minimum project cost is Rs. 1.50 lakh. Under TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program, subsidies of up to 50% of the total project cost are also provided and the maximum could be Rs. 3.75 Lakhs per person is released as a back-ended subsidy by the TAHDCO.

The contents of TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program are designed in order to avail useful information about the involved manufacturing processes, product designs, testing control and quality control , preparation of project profile, selecting and using proper machines and equipments, techniques and avenues for marketing, opportunities of export, pricing of products or services, flow of cash, financial institutions and many more.

Main objectives of TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program

Roles of TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program

All the EDPs primarily play the following four roles in order to help a person become an ‘Entrepreneur’:

Stimulatory Role:
1. To develop financial, technical, managerial and marketing skills in an individual.
2. To develop social and personality traits.
3. To promote entrepreneurial behaviour and values in an individual.
4. To motivate individuals and to build a proper attitude in them towards life and business.
5. To provide knowledge regarding local products and the processes that might be beneficial in selecting products and preparing project reports and more.
Supportive Role:
1. Business Registration
2. Procuring funds
3. Arranging water, land, shed and power, etc.
4. Supporting the purchase of proper and appropriate machines and equipments
5. Supplying raw materials and other essential facilities
6. Providing tax relief, subsidies and other financial aid and assistance
7. Guiding in product marketing and supporting management consultancy
Sustaining Role:
1. To help in expansion, diversification and modernisation of business
2. To provide finance for further development
3. To Defer interest payments
4. To create new marketing processes and to help entrepreneurs in order to access better services and facility centres
Socio-Economic Role:
1. To identify and apply entrepreneurial qualities in practicality
2. To create employment opportunities in MSME industry fastly
3. To support and reduce the concentration of industries by providing balanced support to the regional development
4. To focus on equal distribution of income and wealth of the country by channelling latent resources in order to build an enterprise.

Eligibility for TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program

The following criteria must be qualified by an individual to apply for TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program:

The applicant must have prior experience and knowledge about trade.
Neither the applicant nor his family member should have availed a subsidy earlier
The applicant must have an eligibility certificate that has been issued by a recognised institute.

Conditions for TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program

The following are the conditions for applying in a TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program:

Applicant is free to choose the sector of trade in which he wishes to start his/her business
The assets that are created under the TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program, will only be registered in the name of applicant
The applicant is trained to carry out the business in that district only where the subsidy has been sanctioned.

In order to register for TAHDCO Entrepreneurship Development Program, the applicant needs to fill out the following details:

If the applicant is from SC or not
His Sub-Caste
His gender
His District Name
His Scheme Name
